Recognizing the growing popularity of the Non-GMO Seal, the organic skin and hair care brand Andalou Naturals has become the first personal care brand to achieve Non-GMO certification for its entire product line. Andalou Naturals launched nationwide with Whole Foods Market in March 2011, and its skin and hair products are based on innovative fruit stem cell science.

More consumers are beginning to recognize the Non-GMO Seal, when used on packaging. It means a brand’s formulation has undergone a rigorous testing procedure to ensure that the product doesn’t include any ingredients that contain Genetically Modified Organisms. The Non-GMO Project offers North America’s only third-party verification and labeling for non-GMO food and products.

According to SPINS 2012 report, sales of Non-GMO Project verified products have surpassed $2 billion dollars annually. “It’s the fastest growing label in the natural products industry,” said Megan Westgate, executive director at the Non-GMO Project.

Westgate continued, “Go into any natural foods store, any product category, any shelf, and you’ll find the label with the orange butterfly. This has really just happened in the last couple of years and it’s continuing to grow exponentially.”

Jeremiah McElwee, executive Whole Body coordinator at Whole Foods Market, spoke highly of the brand, saying: “We have been a proud supporter of Andalou Naturals since their inception. The entire product range meets our industry-leading standards for quality sourcing, environmental impact, efficacy, and safety. Andalou’s commitment to the Non-GMO Project and ingredient integrity continues to define and expand industry standards.”
